66-Unit Development with Access to Transportation, Shopping and Health Care Services Will Enable Residents to Age in Place
Investment Complements “Finger Lakes Forward” – The Region’s Comprehensive Strategy to Revitalize Communities and Grow the Economy
June 19, 2018 – New York State Homes and Community Renewal today announced the opening of Cornerstone Pointe Apartments, a $14.3 million affordable and supportive development for persons age 62 and older in the Town of Greece. Developed by Rochester’s Cornerstone Group, the development includes 66 supportive homes with 33 units set aside for frail senior citizens enrolled in Medicaid.
Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said, “Residents of Cornerstone Pointe Apartments will be able to live independently with easy access to transit, healthcare and community services. Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, we are investing more than ever before in creating the affordable housing that is essential to building a stronger local economy and moving the Finger Lakes forward.”
Governor Cuomo’s commitment to strengthening communities and growing the Finger Lakes economy is reflected in Finger Lakes Forward, a $500 million state investment through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative that has injected more than $5.2 billion into the region since 2012. The state’s support of Cornerstone Pointe Apartments complements Finger Lakes Forward by providing quality homes for seniors and revitalizing Greece’s economy.
Cornerstone Pointe Apartments is composed of 66 one- and two- bedroom apartments designed for seniors. Thirty-three apartments will accommodate frail elderly households as an alternative to high cost Medicaid nursing homes or emergency room care. Rochester Regional Health and its affiliates will provide supportive services, including ElderONE, a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). ElderONE provides frail elderly an alternative to nursing home placement with in home care.
The nearly 70,000 square-foot complex is located on a 4.4-acre site on the east side of Long Pond Road. The first floor features a manager’s office, supportive services office, sitting room, computer work stations, community room and patio. Seven units are fully accessible and move-in ready for persons with mobility impairments and feature lowered counter tops and cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms, and roll in showers. Three units are built to accommodate persons with vision or hearing impairments, featuring horn/strobe light units, doorbells tied to chimes/lights and visually distinct electrical outlets and switches.
The development is adjacent to Long Pond Senior Housing, a 54-unit senior housing complex also developed by Rochester’s Cornerstone Group. The neighborhood offers easy access to a variety of community services such as public transportation, retail shopping, pharmacy and health services, and the Mall at Greece Ridge.
Governor Cuomo’s commitment to providing all New Yorkers with access to safe, affordable housing is reflected in the State's unprecedented $20 billion, five-year Housing Plan. The plan makes housing accessible and combats homelessness by building and preserving 112,000 units of affordable housing and 6,000 of supportive housing. The plan is a comprehensive approach to statewide housing issues and includes multifamily and single-family housing, community development, and rent stabilization.
New York State Homes and Community Renewal has provided $7.3 million in financing for the project in the form of tax exempt bonds, and $6.5 million through the Supportive Housing Opportunity Program. HCR’s Federal Low-Income Tax credit allocation will generate $4.3 million for the development. The City of Rochester’s Housing Authority will provide project-based rental assistance.

The partnership between Rochester’s Cornerstone Group and Rochester Regional Health, two industry leaders, will greatly benefit the residents who will call these apartments home. I am pleased that New York State Homes and Community Renewal chose to invest in our community and in the well-being of our community's seniors."
NYS Assemblyman Peter Lawrence said, “I congratulate Rochester Cornerstone Group and everyone involved who made this project a reality. Our senior citizens have spent a lifetime enriching our community, it is only fitting that we ensure they are well-taken care of in their golden years. New York State HCR and Rochester RHA are key partners in this effort and I am very pleased at the results of this endeavor.”
Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo said, “The beautiful new Cornerstone Pointe Apartments are a great addition to the Town of Greece and will offer safe, supportive housing options for more seniors right here at home in Monroe County. We thank the Cornerstone Group, New York Homes and Community Renewal, and all partners involved for helping to make this project possible."
Town of Greece Supervisor William Reilich said, “Cornerstone has created or preserved more than 1400 units of affordable housing in Upstate New York since its formation in 1990. Today, I am happy to join owner Roger Brandt as we welcome Cornerstone Pointe Apartments to the Town of Greece. Thank you for your service to our senior population”.

The development of this 66-unit project, phase 2 of a 120-unit residential community, completes an investment by New York State.”
Accelerating Finger Lakes Forward
Today’s announcement complements “Finger Lakes Forward,” the region’s comprehensive blueprint to generate robust economic growth and community development. The State has already invested more than $5.2 billion in the region since 2012 to lay the groundwork for the plan – investing in key industries including photonics, agriculture and food production, and advanced manufacturing. Today, unemployment is down to the lowest levels since before the Great Recession; personal and corporate income taxes are down; and businesses are choosing places like Rochester, Batavia and Canandaigua as a destination to grow and invest in.
Now, the region is accelerating Finger Lakes Forward with a $500 million State investment through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative, announced by Governor Cuomo in December 2015. The State’s $500 million investment will incentivize private business to invest well over $2.5 billion – and the region’s plan, as submitted, projects up to 8,200 new jobs.
